With much sadness we announce the passing of John Henderson, also known as 'John the Cobbler'
W J Henderson Announcement:
Christine and I are heartbroken to tell you that our dad, John Henderson, infamously known as 'John the Cobbler' passed away on Wednesday with us both with him.
Dad was a Master-craftsman in shoe repairers and leatherwork and could turn his hand to fixing pretty much anything! Relied on by hundreds of motorcyclists, golfers, upholsterers and even other shoe repairers.
He fixed everything from famous footballers training kit, shoes for P!nk when she toured in Liverpool, or simply just put a hole in a belt!
Hundreds of dogs and horses are proudly wearing hand made collars and saddles and he was even known to make the odd item for the 'adult industry' (yes, quite reserved John!! 😜).
WJ Henderson's shoe and leather repair ends a 3rd generation legacy (unless the grandchildren have paid any attention!) had businesses in Bootle, Seaforth/Litherland and later in Waterloo (St John's Road).
He never set out to be a shoe repairer... his dream job was to be a musician in the military or a carpenter. He was a talented drummer, trained by the famous Red Carter and played in many bands in Liverpool. He loved his work and loved his customers. He leaves many friends from his love of cake and cafes and a devastated family.
The funeral will take place on Friday 30th June at 1:30pm at Thornton Crematorium.
