With warm and sunny weather forecast for the coming week, Sefton Council is sharing important advice for anyone planning a trip to our beautiful natural coastline.
High Tides Expected
Between 27th and 30th April, high tides of up to 10 metres are expected along the Sefton Coast.
As a result, the #Ainsdale Beach Car Park will be closed during this period.
#Southport Beach Car Park also remains closed due to unsuitable sand conditions. Green Sefton staff are conducting daily safety assessments, and parking will reopen at Southport as soon as conditions allow.
Visitors should be aware that during this high tide period, there will be minimal to no access to the beach for approximately one hour either side of the peak tide times.
Tomorrow, tides at #Formby, Southport, Ainsdale, and #Crosby are expected to peak at 12:43pm, with water levels approaching 10 metres.
Strong winds may also cause significant waves, particularly at Crosby, where waves could reach footpaths.
Visitors are urged to exercise caution when enjoying the coastline and to consider postponing beach visits during peak tides for safety reasons.
Travel and Parking Advice
Visitors travelling by car are advised to plan their journey carefully, as parking spaces fill quickly during warm, sunny days.
To avoid congestion, people are encouraged to consider public transport and active travel options.
Merseyrail train stations are within walking or cycling distance of Southport, Ainsdale, and Crosby beaches. Journey planning information is available at: www.merseyrail.org/journey-planning
Victoria Road Beach Car Park and toilets at Formby will be closed from Thursday 1st May 2025 until Spring 2026 due to major conservation works.

Visitors are strongly advised not to travel to Formby by car during busy periods, including the coming bank holidays and throughout the summer.
However, the National Trust’s Lifeboat Road car park in Formby remains open for visitors, though spaces are limited.
Summary of Safety Advice:
• Expect very high tides between 27th and 30th April.
• Ainsdale Beach Car Park will be closed; Southport Beach Car Park remains closed.
• Minimal beach access around high tide times.
• Significant wave activity expected at Crosby – please stay clear of footpaths near the sea wall.
• Plan ahead and use public transport where possible.
• Postpone beach visits if conditions look unsafe.
Please stay safe and enjoy our beautiful coastline responsibly.
