Tragic Discovery in Search for Missing Teenager Daniel Halliday
Police searching for missing teenager Daniel Halliday have confirmed that the coastguard has found a body off New Brighton. Daniel, 14, went missing on Sunday, 30 June, after entering the water at Crosby Beach.
While the body has not been formally identified, police have stated they are in contact with Daniel's family, who are receiving support from specially trained officers during this difficult time.
Daniel was enjoying a day at Crosby Beach, jumping waves with his older brother when a large wave swept them off their feet. Despite his brother's efforts to save him, Daniel was carried away by the strong current.
The incident prompted a significant emergency response, with search efforts continuing for 15 hours before being stood down on Monday, 1 July.
In a statement released on Monday, 2 July, Daniel's family expressed their heartbreak: "Our worst fear is that this tragic accident has taken our lovely boy from us. Daniel was jumping waves with his big brother who tried to save him, but the current was too strong. Daniel is a loving son, brother, cousin, nephew, and grandson. The family are all devastated, and we hope that we will be allowed our privacy at this time. Thank you."
A Merseyside Police spokesperson added: "We can confirm that a body has been found by the coastguard off New Brighton, tonight, Monday, 8 July. Although the body has not yet been formally identified, officers remain in contact with the family of Daniel Halliday, 14, who went missing at Crosby Beach on Sunday, 30 June."
