Statement from Merseyside Police regarding Southport incident
We are aware of a number of comments made on social media regarding a male seen in suspicious circumstances in the early hours of the morning in the Hampton Road area of Southport and also in other roads that run off Scarisbrick New Road. These matters are under investigation. House to house enquiries have been conducted in the relevant area of Hampton Road today. Some CCTV has been evidenced and witnesses have been spoken to however, there are clearly more people with information that have posted onto social media, but not reported the information to ourselves.
If you witnessed or have CCTV evidence of any crime, attempted crime or anti-social behaviour, please always report it, so that the pattern of behaviour is recorded. Posting on social media has value in alerting neighbours, but unless the incidents are reported to us they will not flag up an emerging problem. Your information could be of huge value. Please report it through the channels listed.
In the meantime, in light of the reported issues, please ensure that windows and doors are locked at all times. Remove anything of value from your car/vehicle and double check that you have locked it.
