Spring Blooms in Sefton as Longer Days Arrive with the Vernal Equinox

Spring has officially arrived across Sefton, bringing longer days, blooming flowers, and a renewed sense of energy to our communities. The Spring Equinox, which takes place on March 20 at 9:01 AM GMT, marks the moment when daylight hours begin to overtake the darkness, leading us into brighter and warmer months ahead.
Signs of Spring Across Sefton

From Southport’s Botanic Gardens to the woodlands of Formby, the changing season can be seen across our towns and villages. Daffodils and crocuses are brightening up parks and green spaces in Bootle, Crosby, and Maghull, while the canal paths of Lydiate and Netherton are becoming popular once again for scenic spring walks.
In Waterloo and Blundellsands, the coastal air feels fresher, and the longer evenings are already encouraging people to enjoy strolls along the Seaforth and Crosby beachfront. The dunes of Hightown and Ainsdale are alive with wildlife, while the bustling high streets of Birkdale and Formby are welcoming more visitors eager to enjoy a coffee or browse local shops in the sunshine.
Spring isn’t just a date on the calendar—it’s a feeling. Birds are singing louder, the air is warming up, and our towns and villages are shaking off the chill of winter.
Clocks Spring Forward on March 30

Another sign that spring is well underway is the upcoming clock change. On Sunday, March 30, the clocks will spring forward by one hour at 1 AM, giving us lighter evenings and more time to enjoy the outdoors.
While we may lose an hour of sleep, the extra daylight will be welcomed by those who love sunset walks along the Sefton coastline, after-school playtime in the parks, and longer afternoons spent in beer gardens and cafés.
Spring in the Community
With warmer days ahead, Sefton’s towns and villages will come alive with spring events, local markets, and outdoor activities. From families enjoying the nature trails of Rimrose Valley to dog walkers exploring the sands of Ainsdale, there’s a real sense of renewal and togetherness in the air.
As we step into this season of growth and positivity, now is the perfect time to embrace everything Sefton has to offer. Whether it’s spotting the first bluebells in the woodlands, listening to the dawn chorus in our parks, or simply enjoying longer evenings with friends and family, spring is a time to reconnect with nature and each other.
