Speed Cameras have been installed and are active on M57 at Switch Island

Speed Cameras have now been Installed on the M57 at Switch Island as Improvement Works Continue. The speed drops quickly to 40mph.
March 19, 2025 – New speed enforcement measures have been introduced on the M57 at Switch Island, with three yellow speed camera poles that went up this week and now the speed camp have been installed today and are now in place on the northbound approach to the busy junction.

The National Highways project, which is part of a wider series of safety and infrastructure improvements across the M57 and M62, is currently underway. Speed cameras are being installed along the 50mph and 40mph sections of the M57, while additional enforcement measures will be introduced at Switch Island to monitor red light jumping and improve overall safety for motorists and pedestrians.
What’s Happening on the M57?
• Speed enforcement cameras are being installed and activated at key points along the motorway.
• Red light cameras will be introduced at Switch Island to deter dangerous driving.
• Additional safety features are being constructed to improve conditions for road users and pedestrians.
To facilitate these works, single lane closures are in place at Switch Island and will remain until early 2025. National Highways is carrying out work at night between 9pm and 5am to minimise disruption.
Diversions
During road closures, clearly signed diversions will be in place, and drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
National Highways has acknowledged that some noise will be unavoidable and has apologised for any disturbance caused by the works.
Tarbock Island Improvements Also Underway
Meanwhile, a separate major improvement scheme is taking place at Tarbock Island (M62 Junction 6). This project aims to increase capacity and reduce congestion at one of the busiest junctions in the Liverpool City Region.
Current Work at Tarbock Island:
🚧 Until the end of March 2025: One lane closed on Windy Arbor Road (southbound) at Tarbock Island.
🚧 Until June 2025: M62 Junction 6 westbound exit slip (from Manchester) is completely closed. Drivers must exit at Junction 5 (Bowring Park) and rejoin the M62 eastbound.
🚧 Until April 28: One lane closed on M57 Junction 1 southbound exit slip road (from Prescot).
🚧 Until mid-May: Lane closures on Tarbock Island roundabout between M57 southbound exit and Windy Arbor Road.
Plan Ahead for Delays
National Highways is urging motorists to plan ahead, allow extra time, or consider alternative routes while these essential improvements take place.
With these new enforcement measures and infrastructure upgrades, National Highways aims to improve safety, reduce congestion, and enhance traffic flow across key routes in Merseyside.
