Sadly a fatal stabbing of an 18 year old man has taken place in Litherland today

5:28pm - A 17 year old male has now been arrested on suspician of murder and has been taken into custody for questioning.

5:20pm - It has just been confirmed by Merseyside Police that it was an 18 year old man that has been stabbed to death this afternoon in Litherland. Merseyside Police have now launched a murder investigation. The man was stabbed in his chest. North West Ambulance Service attended the scene and the man was taken to hospital but sadly died.

His next of kin have been made aware and specialist officers are supporting them at this sad time.

4:35pm - Shortly after 3pm this afternoon, a stabbing took place in an alleyway off vincent Road in Litherland.

We have been told (but unconfirmed at the moment) that the person who committed the stabbing has now barricaded himself inside a house near to the scene of the stabbing. There is a huge armed police presence and the road has been cordoned off.

Forensics are now on site.

Reports coming in that sadly someone has been stabbed to death in the alleyway off Vincent Road (off Kirkstone Road North) in #Litherland

4:10pm

A large armed police presence now in this Litherland street this afternoon including officers with machine guns and shields.

Vincent Road, which is off Kirkstone Road North has been cordoned off completely with Police tape.

At least nine armed officers are on the scene within the cordoned area.
