Police appeal for information following disorder in Southport this morning
Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses following an incident in Southport town centre in the early hours of this morning, Saturday, 7 December 2019.
Officers were called to Lord Street, near to the Scarisbrick Hotel, at around 6.11am, to reports of disorder involving a group of men and women.
Patrols attended and spoke to witnesses who suggested that the incident involved a group of men and women, who became embroiled in a fight during which sharp implements were used to inflict injuries to some of the men. The investigation is still at an early stage and the severity of the injuries are unclear at present.
There are a number of scenes cordoned off in the Lord Street area, whilst Crime Scene Investigators carry out forensic inquiries. CCTV opportunities are being assessed and an investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the incident is continuing.
Detective Chief Inspector John Williams, said: "Our investigation is at a very early stage and we are still trying to piece together what happened during this incident.“
"Extra officers will be on patrol to reassure local people and we are determined to being those responsible to justice.
"We know that a number of people and drivers were in the area at the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened, or has any information which could help with our inquiries, to come forward."
"There are a number of scenes in place on Lord Street and I would like to ask members of the public to be patient whilst we carry out our forensic examinations. We are aware that this is a very busy time of the year for businesses and shoppers and we will keep any disruption to a minimum."
