Pedestrian has sadly passed away in Southport due to a traffic incident

Merseyside Police have confirmed that a pedestrian has passed away in a traffic incident in Birkdale.

Officers have closed off Eastbourne Road in Southport this evening after a pedestrian was hit by a car.

Emergency services dashed to the scene near to a row of shops in Eastbourne Road around 5pm this evening following reports of a road traffic collision.

Air ambulance paramedics were called and landed at nearby Bedford Road playing fields.

CPR was administered on scene but police have since confirmed the pedestrian involved has sadly passed away.

A statement from Merseyside Police is expected shortly.
