Officers have arrested two men following a disturbance at a bar in Waterloo on Wednesday 13 April

At around 11pm it was reported that an altercation broke out at Parnells Bar on South Road involving five men and that one man was armed in a knife. No injuries were reported.

Officers attended and a 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He has since been charged with being in possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Thomas McClelland, 27 years, from West Derby is due to appear at Knowsley Remand Court on Saturday 16 April.

Following a further investigation a 25-year-old man from Bootle was arrested this morning (Friday 15 April) on suspicion of affray and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

The suspect is still in police custody and further investigations are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Paul Gillies said: “Although two arrests and a charge has been made, our enquiries continue and we’d still urge anyone who witnessed the incident, saw any suspicious behaviour, to please contact us so we can bring them to justice. Either tell us directly or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

“The use of any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved.”
