Merseyside Police are recruiting for a Psychological Therapist to work within their OHU Team. This is a permanent, full-time role.

The post-holder will:
Establish contact with clients, reacting to self-referrals, line manager referrals, triage requests and incident reports to make pro-active and prioritised contact with employees to identify and deliver an appropriate and timely evidence based psychological intervention.
Clinically assess individual cases using diagnostic criteria to formulate an evidence based treatment plan suitable for the client. Identify and provide the most appropriate therapy or support mechanism for the client including CBT, counselling, psychotherapy, EMDR and counselling. Provide continued support prior to, during and after psychological interventions as required.
Conduct “Fit for role” psychological assessments/interviews for specialist roles that regularly deal with traumatic incidents/materials, both prior to appointment and on an annual basis following appointment to role eg. FLO’s, CBRN and Cyber Crime Operatives.
Act as the OHU Co-ordinator for TRIM providing advice to Senior Managers based on professional knowledge in relation to Trauma Management following critical and/or major incidents.
Facilitate Trauma Risk Management Debriefing (TRIM) by being the first point of reference, co-ordinating the response and providing measured support before, during and after the process, so reducing the incident and extent of Post-Traumatic Stress and providing a healthier and more stable workforce and promoting the Force’s duty of care in accordance with national standards.
Provide evidence based and ethical psychological therapies, informed by the client and the Force’s pragmatic needs that assist clients to help themselves by empowering them to develop coping strategies for dealing with stress, anxiety, depression and other psychological conditions. This may involve a variety of therapies including Psychotherapy, CBT (Cognitive Behaviour therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing). Where necessary refer customers on to other agencies enabling customers to access a wide variety of organisations and agencies and support groups eg Alcoholics Anonymous etc.
Liaise with management to develop and maintain effective working relationships with Senior Officers, Line Managers and Supervisors, to ensure rapid and direct communication regarding individual welfare needs. This includes the provision of presentations to managers on managing stress within the workplace.
Liaise with the Force Doctor, OHNA’s and Health and Safety Officer and external service providers such as Psychologists, Psychiatrists, GP’s and CPN’s ensuring that the work of the OHU is co-ordinated and that information is shared which can benefit the case of the client.
