Man Seriously Injured in Southport Collision – Witnesses Urged to Come Forward

A 36-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision with a white Ford Transit van in Southport this evening (Monday, 24 February).
The incident occurred at approximately 7:53 pm on Cumberland Road, where the pedestrian was struck by the van. Emergency services attended the scene, and the man was transported to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the van, a 57-year-old man from Southport, failed to stop at the scene. He was later located and arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through careless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He has been taken to a police station for questioning.
Merseyside Police Roads Policing Unit is investigating the incident, and officers have been conducting examinations at the scene.
