Investigation underway following discovery of woman's body in Ainsdale

Merseyside Police are investigating following the discovery of a woman’s body in Ainsdale today (Tuesday 30 July 2019).

Officers attended a house in Kenilworth Road following reports of concern for the safety of an 88-year-old woman.

Officers were called at 7.20pm last night, Monday 29 July and a search of the back garden was carried out, during which a woman’s body was found.

She has yet to be formally identified and officers are working to contact next of kin.

Her death is currently being treated as unexplained and a Home Office Post Mortem will take place to establish whether the woman died of natural causes or not.

A 58-year-old man from Ainsdale was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has subsequently been released under investigation and detained under the Mental Health Act.

An investigation to establish the full circumstances of the incident has now been launched, house to house enquiries are being carried out and the property has been sealed off to enable officers to forensically examine the scene.
