HM Coastguard Crosby & Southport tasked to assist Police with a search for missing person in Sefton
The volunteers of HM Coastguard Crosby and HM Coastguard Southport were tasked to assist Merseyside Police with a search for a missing person in the area of Marine Drive on Southport Beach on 20th April at 10:44pm.
Southport Coastguard were quickly on scene of incident and commenced an initial search of the area on foot North of Southport pier south of the pier channel whilst Southport Offshore Rescue Trust (Southport Lifeboat) deployed their quads to search the north side of the pier channel.
Upon arriving at the scene of the incident three members of Crosby team donned water safety PPE and joined in the torchlight search for the missing female.
Southport offshore rescue trust also tasked their drone team to assist in the search The UAS team used the thermal imaging camera onboard the drone and were able to locate the casualty on the beach near to Fairway roundabout and guide the Coastguard teams to her location.
Crosby and Southport coastguard then accessed the location of the missing person and carried out a check of the female. Once completed the teams worked together in guiding the casualty back to the safe care of police.
As our assistance was no longer required all rescue teams were stood down from tasking and after a debrief returned to their stations.
