⚠️ Flood Alert Issued for River Alt and Surrounding Areas ⚠️
The Met Office and Environment Agency have issued a flood alert for the River Alt and its surrounding watercourses, affecting a wide range of areas from Huyton to Formby.
This alert includes Kirkby, Fazakerley, Maghull, Formby, Aughton, Sefton, and Lunt, and is effective from 6 PM today, Thursday 23rd May.
Residents in these areas are urged to exercise extreme caution. It is strongly advised not to attempt walking or driving through floodwater, as even shallow water can pose serious risks. Flooding can cause significant damage to properties and infrastructure, and can also lead to dangerous travel conditions.
The current forecast indicates that local flooding from rivers is expected to persist across the North West of England over the next five days. This ongoing situation is due to the heavy rainfall experienced in recent days, which has left the ground saturated and water levels dangerously high.
Additionally, there is a heightened risk of surface water flooding today, with more rain expected to fall on already waterlogged ground. This could exacerbate the flooding situation, potentially leading to inundated properties and further travel disruptions. Commuters and residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and to plan their journeys accordingly.
A map showing the flood risk areas is available for residents to view and assess the level of risk in their specific locations. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
The Sefton Bubble urges all residents to stay safe, remain vigilant, and follow guidance from local authorities. Ensure you have an emergency plan in place and stay informed through official channels.
