Finally Seftons Child Carers to get more support!

Sefton Council’s plan to extend support for children and young people who act as unpaid carers is a compassionate step toward addressing a crucial need in the community.

Young carers often face significant emotional and practical challenges as they balance caregiving responsibilities with school and personal life. By offering additional resources, Sefton Council aims to alleviate some of the pressure these young people face, providing them with essential tools such as respite care, mental health support, and educational assistance. This initiative recognizes the invaluable role young carers play in their families, while ensuring they also have the support to thrive in their own lives.

Support to carers is a key duty under both the Care Act 2014 and the Children and Families Act 2014, which require all local authorities in England to ensure that the needs of carers and those they care for are met in a timely and appropriate manner. In line with this, Sefton Council’s report sought approval from councillors for the future implementation of the carer’s strategy and a new service contract aimed at enhancing support for unpaid carers.

The report outlined the benefits of the new contract, emphasizing how it would enable the council to secure additional services designed to further assist unpaid carers at every stage of their caregiving journey.

By recognising the critical role carers play, this strategy focuses on ensuring that both carers and those they care for receive the compassionate, tailored support they need, ultimately improving their quality of life.
