Dispersal zones set up across Sefton to deal with Mischief Night and Halloween
Dispersal Zones have been set up by Merseyside Police in the areas of Maghull, Formby, Crosby, Litherland and Southport due to Mischief Night (30th October) and Halloween (31st October) to tackle anti-social behaviour that in recent years has become out of control on these nights.
Within a Dispersal Zone, police officers or PCSO's have the legal power (under certain circumstances) to:
* Require anyone who's presence in the area is likely to lead to anti-social behaviour to leave the area and prevent them returning for up to 48 hours * Require a person to surrender items that can be used to cause anti-social behaviour *Take under 16's home or to a place of safety *Arrest anyone who ignores the instruction.
Dispersal Zones are just one tool used to help combat anti-social behaviour in the area which has been causing damage to property in the locality and putting the community at risk.
