Cannabis farm and weapons discovered in property in Southport

Cannabis plants recovered from a property in Cemetery Road, Southport.

A cannabis farm with an estimated street value of over £380,000 together with a deactivated rifle and two gas powered air weapons have been recovered from a property in Southport.

Officers attended at the property on Cemetery Road at 11pm on Thursday 1st August to execute a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs warrant.

In total 95 cannabis plants were recovered in two rooms together with a large quantity of bagged cannabis and the weapons.

An investigation is underway and enquiries remain ongoing.

Detective Inspector Cat Walsh said: “This property contained a significant amount of cannabis plants which we have now successfully stopped reaching our streets. We are now investigating the incident and would urge anyone with information to get in please get in touch.”

“Cannabis cultivation can cause serious harm in our communities. Nobody wants to live next door to a property containing a cannabis farm and we would ask that if you believe someone is using a property for this purpose, please tell us so we can take positive action and find those responsible for setting them up.”

Some of the signs that cannabis is being grown are:

Strange smells and sounds

• Frequent and varied visitors to a property, often at unusual times

• Gardening equipment being taken into a property, such as plant pots, fertiliser, fans and industrial lighting

• Windows are sealed and covered or the curtains are permanently closed

• Heat from an adjoining property

• Birds gathering on a roof in cold weather

• Individually these activities may seem commonplace, however, together may indicate something more sinister
