A Sefton man has been jailed for six years after repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl under 13 years old

A Sefton man has been jailed for six years after repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl under 13 years old.

Brian Colin McCoy, 64 years, of Sandfield Road, Bootle was accused of touching a girl inappropriately on a number of occasions in multiple locations.

He appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today (Monday 30 September) where he was jailed after being convicted of the following offences:

• Meeting a girl under 16 following grooming

• Assaulting a girl under 13 by touching

• Three counts of assaulting a girl by touching

• Causing/inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity

• Two counts of failing to comply with notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register

Detective Inspector Paul McVeigh said: “The public of Merseyside will understandably feel revulsed at the actions of McCoy. Our detectives felt the same, and were determined to undertake a thorough and lengthy investigation to unearth all of McCoy’s crimes, and ensure he faced justice for his offending.

“McCoy put his victim though an unimaginable ordeal and I want to take this opportunity to commend her immense bravery. She has come forward and co-operated with the investigation throughout.

“His actions were depraved and predatory, taking advantage of a child and seeking out opportunities to abuse her. I hope he reflects on his crimes while behind bars and considers the long-lasting impact they will no doubt have on the victim.”

Det Insp McVeigh added: “Merseyside Police is completely committed to protecting children from sexual abuse and those who seek to do them harm.

“We have specialist officers who investigate such crimes, and provide full support to victims and their families.
