A person has sadly been struck by a train on the Southport line

We can confirm that a person has this evening, Tuesday 27th September, been hit by a train at Grosvenor Road/Crescent Road crossing on the Southport line this evening. Services on the Southport Line are currently suspended. This is an unmanned crossing and we have been informed that the person was already lying on the tracks when he was hit, but this has not been confirmed yet.
A spokesperson from Merseyrail said: “Due to a person being struck by a train, services are starting & terminating at Formby.“
Roads have been closed due to the incident. A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: “Road closures likely to be in place until approximately midnight Tuesday 27th. Road closures are in place on CRESCENT ROAD due to an incident at the unmanned railway crossing. Traffic will be diverted along TRAFALGAR ROAD and WALMER ROAD/CAVENDISH ROAD.”
“Please avoid this area for the rest of this evening.”
