Four arrested and stolen car and knife recovered in Southport last night
Merseyside Police has arrested four men following a brief pursuit involving a suspected stolen vehicle in Southport last night (Thursday 14 September). At around 7.10pm, a suspected stolen blue Vauxhall Vectra came to the attention of patrols on Hillside Road. Following a brief pursuit, which was stopped when the car was driven the wrong way down a road, the car drove away but was later found to have collided with two other vehicles, a black Ford Fiesta and blue Ford Kuga, on Scarisbrick New Road. The occupants are believed to have left the car on foot before patrols arrived. A search of the area was undertaken by officers, assisted by information called in by witnesses and members of the public, and four men swiftly arrested. A lock knife was also found during a search of the route that the stolen car took. A 22-year-old from Skelmersdale was arrested on suspicion of aggravated taking of a motor vehicle, taking a motor vehicle without consent and possession of a Class B drug (cannabis). A 23-year-old man from Skelmersdale was arrested on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle without consent. A 25- year-old from Skelmersdale was arrested on suspicion of aggravated taking of a motor vehicle, taking a motor vehicle without consent and possession of a Class B drug (cannabis). A 23-year-old man, of no fixed abode, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated taking of a motor vehicle, failing to stop after a collision, and possession of a Class B drug (cannabis). They have been taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed. The Vauxhall is believed to have been stolen from the Greater Manchester area. It has been recovered for further enquiries to be carried out.
