Stone Age Footprints Discovery Walk

The National Trust’s Northern Regional Archaeologist, Jamie Lund led the April Stone Age Footprints Discovery Walk on Monday 9th April.

The baked mud of 6,000 years ago lies under the sands and can be uncovered by the tides. Human footprints were soon found together with roe deer, aurochs – a very large wild ox, cranes and wild boar.

The prints were first brought to light by retired Formby schoolmaster Gordon Roberts, whose illustrated booklet is available from the National Trust’s Membership & Information trailer.
